Microsoft Certified Professional

The Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential (certification) is for professionals who have the skills to successfully implement a Microsoft product or technology as part of a business solution in an organization. Candidates are required to pass one current Microsoft certification exam.

There are higher-level certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSE). To attain this higher certification, one must pass more than a handful of tests dealing with Computer Server Operating Systems and Computer Network Infrastructure engineering.

Some employers require MCP or MCSE certifications for specific jobs, yet these two certifications are by no means the only ones that exist.

Generally speaking, MCP and MCSE curriculum revolves around Computer Operating Systems made by Microsoft. Other manufacturers of Operating Systems (such as Sun Microsystems) have their own certifications for their Operating systems (Sun uses the "Solaris Operating Environment" as their Operating System).

There is a daunting list of computer certifications that exist that cover various computer and network technologies. These certifications are intended to be geared for specific employment roles in the computing field.
