National Ambient Air Quality Standards

The National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) are standards established by the United States EPA that apply for outdoor air throughout the country.

NAAQS requires the EPA to set standards on six criteria pollutants:

  1. Ozone (O3)
  2. Particulate Matter
    • PM10 implementation (2.5 micrometres to 10 micrometres in size)
    • PM2.5 implementation (2.5 micrometres in size or less)
  3. Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  4. Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
  5. Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
  6. Lead (Pb)
