Franchise history

The Nets were one of four teams that joined the NBA after the American Basketball Association folded (as the New York Nets. They moved to New Jersey after their first year in the NBA). Under coach Bryon Scott , star player Jason Kidd led the Nets to appearances in the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. However, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2002 and by the San Antonio Spurs in 2003. Prior to joining the NBA in 1976, the Nets under Coach Kevin Loughery and led by forward Julius Erving won ABA titles in 1974 and 1976.
