North Greenwich tube station

North Greenwich tube station on the Jubilee Line opened in time for the Millennium celebrations at the end of 1999 - it is adjacent to the Millennium Dome at the northern end of an area sometimes referred to as the Greenwich peninsula. It is between Canary Wharf and Canning Town, and is on the boundary between Travelcard Zone 2 and Zone 3.

It is not in the area historically known as North Greenwich, which was on the Isle of Dogs, north of the river.

Planning for the Dome meant that the station was designed to cope with the millions of visitors expected there during 2000. The station is the largest on the Jubilee Line, capable of handling around 20,000 passengers an hour. Its striking blue tiled and glazed interior, with raking concrete columns rearing up inside the huge underground space, was designed by architect Will Alsop.

The tube station has a bus station outside, with services to Stratford, Bexleyheath, Greenwich and Lewisham, among other places.
