Organising model

The organising model of the trade union is part of a debate on how Australian trade unions should operate. Australian trade unions are perceived within the trade union and Labor movement to be in a crisis, primarily caused by low rates of membership.

The organising model says that the chief job of the union is to gain members by organising them in industrial campaigns against their boss and for workplace rights. The organising model concentrates on the union as a militant, member directed and growing structure. It is primarily adopted by the more left wing trade unions.

The other possible model is called the services model.
