Partially permeable

Partially permeable is a biological term which describes the characteristic of a barrier to selectively allow substances to pass through. An example of a partially permeable barrier is the cell membrane (to which it usually refers) - this is due to the ability of the membrane to allow or disallow molecules to pass through. This normally depends upon the molecules charge, solubility or size.
