Peritonsillar abscess

Peritonsillar abscess, also called PTA or Quinsy is a common infection of the peritonsillar space . It manifests itself as a painful pus-filled inflammation of the tonsils, usually caused by a complication in tonsillitis. It can also cause great pain, felt in the throat and ear, when trying to open the mouth fully.
