Pingus is an open source computer game inspired by Lemmings and created by Ingo Ruhnke . It features penguins that resemble Tux, the Linux mascot.

Work on the game began in 1998. Version 0.6 was released in 2003 for GNU/Linux.

As of 2004, Pingus has only 22 levels accessible from the GUI, all with a winter theme. However, a level editor is included, and there are levels included with the game not accessible from its GUI, some with entriely different graphics.

The levels that exist are entirely playable, and the game features sound effects and music.

In 2005, "Gallipoli: the game" was released. It is based on the Pingus code, and is supposed to be "a stunning recreation of Australia's greatest military adventure", the battle of Gallipoli. The game graphics have been modified (the penguins have been replaced by Australian soldiers) and the gameplay has been changed so that the goal is to exterminate as many soldiers as possible "your mission, as an authentic WWI commander, is to wipe out as many diggers as possible ... the more gruesome the better!".

Pingus is not related or inspired by Pingu.
