The Port Lympne Zoo is a 350 acre (1.4 km²) zoo reserve founded in 1973 in Kent, England by John Aspinall to solve lack of space at Howletts Zoo. Known for being unorthodox, for the encouragement of close personal relationships between staff and animals, and for their breeding of rare and endangered species. Port Lympne contains a historic mansion and gardens designed by architects Sir Herbert Baker for Sir Philip Sassoon during World War I. Black Rhinos have been bred here for many years.
