Postcode Address File

The Postcode Address File is a data file, available from the British Post Office, which is used to validate postal addresses against postcodes and to look up postcodes for addresses. Despite it being basic infrastructure, the Post Office restricts access to it, charging companies for postcode lookup services, much to the annoyance of the public.
