Rookie

Rookie is a term for a person who is in their first year of play of their sport and has little or no experience. By extension the term has come to mean anyone new to a profession or activity (e.g. Rookie cop, Rookie pilot).

The term rookie has been modified in some online communities and is often referred to as simply rook, which means noob or newbie.

Previous year rookies are called sophomores both at the University and at sport.

Rookie is also the name of an Italian rapper, and there is also a German rapper called KC da Rookie and the short form of the Woburn Rookie Drama Festival.
