Rykodisc

Rykodisc was one of the first CD-only record companies in the late 1980s. They were the company that published Frank Zappa's music on CD. Their name means "sound from a flash of light" in Japanese. The founders were Arthur Mann , Rob Simonds , Doug Lexa and Don Rose. Over the years they have acquired Hannibal Records, Tradition Records , Grammavision Records and Restless Records . Their catalogue now exceeds 1,200 titles.

In 1999, Chris Blackwell left Island Records and acquired Rykodisc for a reported $35 million.
