Saint-Gilles within the Brussels-Capital Region

Saint-Gilles (French), or Sint-Gillis (Dutch) is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium.

On 1 January 2004 the municipality had a total population of 43,897 (22,205 males and 21,692 females). The total area is 2.52 km² which gives a population density of 17,387.02 inhabitants per km².

Saint Gilles has a legendary footballclub called Royal Union Saint Gilloise which was successful until the thirties.

Saint Gilles is the hometown of the famous architect Victor Horta. The house that he designed for hismself (now Horta Museum ) is built there.
