Sandton City is South Africa's most prestigious shopping centre. Spanning 5 levels with 144 000 mē of retail space, the centre is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Attached to the centre is Nelson Mandela Square, a 16 000 mē development linked to the rest of Sandton City via a pedestrian mall bridge. This area houses a 6-metre bronze statue of Nelson Mandela, which was unveiled in March 2004.
