Seymour Guado (formal titles Maester Seymour Guado or Lord Seymour) is a fictional character in the video game Final Fantasy X of the Final Fantasy series.
Seymour is the leader of the Guado, a race of humanoids in the world of Spira. He is also a Maester of Yevon. He inherited both positions after the death of his father, Lord Jyscal Guado.
A Sorrowed Past
Seymour is actually half Guado and half human, since his father married a human to further Guado relations to Yevonites. But many saw the boy as an abomination, so Jyscal had his son and wife sent to Baaj for their protection. After his dying mother, in order to ensure her son would be 'strong' against the prejudice of being a half-breed, gave her life to become a fayth for the Aeon Anima, Seymour's young mind snapped and he began to believe that death is the only way hatred and suffering can truly ever end. But to achieve his aims, he had to have something much stronger than Anima. As a result, he found Sin as Spira's hope. Shortly before and during the events of Final Fantasy X, Seymour set a plan in motion to ascend the hierarchy of Yevon, the goal of which would ultimately lead him to become the new Sin, and 'free' Spira's people by killing them all.
A Sinister Plot
Over the next ten years, in High Summoner Braska's Calm, Seymor slowly made his way to being a Summoner, then high-priest of Malacania Temple. But, as Tidus entered Spira, Seymour murdered his father Jyscal, ascending to the position of leader of the Guado and Maester of Yevon. He then searched for a Summoner to manipulate, his eyes falling eventually on Yuna, daughter of High Summoner Braska, at Luca. During the tournament, he orchestrated an attack of fiends, which were summoned by Guado warriors. He used the attack to show his power as a summoner using Anima, in order to make Yuna feel in awe of his power. At the Mi'ihen Highroad, Seymour was, as a man of Spira, supporting Operation Mi'ihen, an offensive against Sin using Al Bhed weaponry and captured sinspawn. The operation failed, and many died at the hands of Sin. Seymour used this battle to instill further doubt into Yuna's already fragile heart.
After the battle, he returned to Guadosalam, the Guado capital, in anticipation of Yuna and her guardians. But he was visited by Baralai instead, who sought Seymour's aid after the Crimson Squad incident that went in hand with Operation Mih'en. Seymour agreed to help, telling Baralai to go into hiding in Guadosalam until his time comes. Once Yuna and her guardians finally arrived, he used a sphere containing a memory collected from the Farplane to further woo Yuna. He then asked Yuna to marry him, in order to further unite Spira (since both had mixed parentage; Yuna is Human-Al Bhed). After a visit to the Farplane (an entrance to which is located in Guadosalam), which had an unexpected "return" of Jyscal (Yuna sent him again), Seymour then moved ahead to Macalania Temple, carved deep within Lake Macalania.
Devious Machinations
At Macalania, where he expected Yuna to accept his proposal of marriage, Seymour was surprised to find that she had come to stop him. Yuna had received a sphere from the Unsent Jyscal detailing Seymour's treachery. Yuna, along with her guardians, killed Seymour. But, alas, Yuna was prevented from sending Seymour by his Guado retainer Trommel.
When Yuna was kidnapped on Bikanel Island by the Al Bhed (for "safekeeping", since they did not want summoners risking their lives to defeat Sin), the Guado attacked "Home", the Al Bhed's main city, and kidnapped Yuna to take her to Bevelle. This attack was ordered by Yevon, under authority of Seymour, now a Unsent.
There, Seymour forced Yuna into marriage, while she went along with his plan in order to send him, since he had become unsent. When Yuna's guardians, led by a furious Tidus, attacked Bevelle in a rescue attempt, Seymour ultimately wed Yuna, under penalty of the death of her guardians. Yuna escaped, but she and her guardians were captured and put to trial, convicted of high treason, and sentenced to death in the Via Purifico . They escaped, and then confronted Seymour, who killed Maester Kinoc and revealed his plan to become Sin. Kimahri tried to attack Seymour, but since he had become unsent, Seymour used his new-found power to be a Fiend-like being called Seymour Natus. He was again defeated, but disappeared before Yuna had a chance to send him.
Seymour returned again at Mt. Gagazet, only after slaughtering all the Ronso, leaving few spared. He transformed into Seymour Flux. He was defeated once more, again disappearing before his Sending. The villian would later reappear inside Sin, where he used its power to ascended into his ultimate form, Seymour Omnis, with intentions to ensure Sin's survival. Yuna and her party finally defeated him once and for all, and as his "wife" performed the last dance he would ever witness, he proclaimed that, even when he is gone, Spira's people would still suffer, he was partically right due to the strife seen in Final Fantasy X-2.
Seymour is one of the memory-created optional bosses you can fight in a special arena.
