The word shakers or shaker has several different uses:

• Shakers are a religious denomination, an offshoot of the Religious Society of Friends.
• 'The Shakers' is the nickname of Bury Football Club in England. The club was given this name as the religious Shakers (see above) originate from the North West of England, near Bury.
• In Music, The Shakers were a successful Uruguayan rock group the name of whom is widely known in the Rio de la Plata.
• In vibration testing, shakers are the devices to excite the structure either for endurance testing or modal testing.
• A shaker is a slang term for a specific type of mechanical pencil which uses refillable leads of various thicknesses.
