Shakhbut Bin-Sultan Al Nahyan was the son of Sultan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the traditional ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1922 to 1926. Ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi till August 6th, 1966 he was deposed in a bloodless palace coup succeeded by his brother, Sheikh Zayed Bin-Sultan Al Nahyan, as emir of Abu Dhabi who eventually became the undisputed leader of the UAE.
