Shishapangma is the fourteenth highest mountain in the world and the lowest of the eight-thousanders. Shishapangma was the last 8,000 metre peak to be climbed. Alternate names of Shishapangma include Gosainthan, Xixabangma and Xixabangma Feng.

Shishapangma was first climbed on May 2 1964 by Hsu Ching and his ten man Chinese expedition.

On 11 December 2004, Jean-Christophe Lafaille, a French climber, climbed the first solo ascension of a eight-thousander from a new route in the South face.

On 14 January 2005, Piotr Morawski , a Polish climber and Simone Moro a Italy climber - climbed the first ascension of a eight-thousander in winter.
