Shoot boxing

Shooto boxing (シュートボクシング)is a new martial art which is not only kicking and punching, but also allows the use of throwing and standing submission. It was developed from kickboxing by Caesar Takeshi .

History

When the kickboxing boom had finished, and its broadcasting on Japanese TV waned around 1981, pro wrestling matches appeared in its wake. At that time, Caesar was looking for what he could do after retiring from his kickboxing career. Then he saw Satoru Sayama, a professional wrestler. Although he fought in the rings of the UWF, he was also trying to found a form of martial arts called "Shooting", which is the old name of shooto. In addition, Carl Gotch told him that "There are many martial arts which you haven't known." This made Caesar to seek out a new martial arts. Finally, in August 1985, he found "shoot boxing", and he promoted the first promotion of shoot boxing in 1st September 1985. Altough Caesar was a promotor, he also fought as a shoot boxer.

There are 2 types of matches: Expert class and Freshman class. The length of an Expert class match is 3 rounds of 5 minutes each. If a winner isn't determined in 5 rounds, they will keep adding an extra round of 3 minutes until a winner is decided. The interval between rounds is 1 minute.

The length of a Freshman class match is 3 rounds of 3 minutes each. If a winner isn't determined in 3 rounds, there are extra rounds of 3 minutes unlimitedly until a winner is decided. The interval between rounds is also 1 minute.

  • Judgement(Decision)

When fight isn't decided by the knockout, three judges total the grade of each round and fighter which equal to or more than two judges evaluate wins.

  • Knockout(KO)

When downed, standing up within count 10 and it isn't possible to have taken Fighting pose within count 8 or, it is when there is judged not to be fighting will. When there is an expression of " giving-up " by standing Submission.When the one of fighter damage is terrible and the referee orders fight stop.When falling under the ring accidentally in fight and it isn't possible to return to the ring within count 20.If the fighter lands out of the ropes but still on the ring surface, he is given to the count of 10 to come back inside the ropes. If he cant beat the count, he loses the fight.When both fighter are downed at the same time and don't stand up within count 10, it ends fight as the double knockdown.In this case, clause 3 in article 11 is applied.

  • Technical Knockout(TKO)

When the referee judges that it is impossible to continue fight by the injury that fighter is accidental. It follows in article 10.When 2 degrees downed in one round.When the second invests a towel into fight.

  • Doctor's stop

When the doctor judges that it is impossible to continue fight by the injury of fighter

  • No contest ( The invalid game )

When fighter both violates by the rule and does rigged one fight or collusion fight Or, even if it does note and a warning many times, it is in case of not doing fight with sincerity and referee's ordering fighter both to be disqualified.


Grading

The point of fight is graded by the standard in the following 1 - the item of 3. Legal Techniques:

  • 1)Legal strikes are punching, kicking and kneeing.

Throwing techniques such as neck throw, the hip throw, the suplex and so on. Standing Submission such as the arm lock, guillotine choke, Sleeper hold and so on. All techniques are judged accordingly to whether or not it gave the opponent accurate damage.

  • 2)Order of priority of the grade
    • 1. Down number of times/SHOOT point/CATCH point
    • 2. Damage degree to have given the opponent
    • 3. Clean hit number of times
    • 4. Aggressive degree (The attack point)

It makes the order of this 1 - 4. The maximum point of each round of both fighters is 10. The grade system, which always makes superior fighter 10 and the point, deducts 10 of inferior fighter But, it makes a maximum point difference 10 - 6 4 points and any more point difference isn't added on.

  • 3)Grade standard

Downed by the throwing technique. 3P Downed by the blow. Throwing technique to the back that the referee called in "SHOOT". 2P Superior point of each round. Throwing technique in front of referee's calling in "SHOOT". Standing Submission that the referee called in "CATCH". 1P Points deducted by the foul play. It follows in this article [5].

    • a.) The SHOOT point is the point when the referee calls "SHOOT" in the throwing technique to front or the back.

But, 1 - 3 conditions must be met.

    • 1.The opponent is passing the position, which is higher than the lower back.
    • 2.The both legs of the opponent leave a mat fully.
    • 3.The opponent is falling from the back to the mat.

In case of tackle, it becomes a point when lifting the position of the lower back of the opponent to the position of its chest and throwing it.

    • b.) The CATCH point is the point when the referee calls "CATCH" for standing Submission.

But, the condition of 1・2 must be met.

  • 1.Both fighters have to remain standing.
  • 2.The submission becomes damage and cannot escape from the condition.

Awarding the win to the fighter holding the opponent in the submission. A break will be called if one or both of the fighters arrives on the mat. Also, if the round ends after a CATCH call and a submission hold is on, until the Submission is either escaped, or causes a tap out the fight continues. When there is an expression of the fighter giving-up (tapping out) then, it is knockout and the fight is over. But, only the final round ends fight with the sound of the gong.

Fouls

The foul play of fight is the skill of ① from ⑬.1 point is deducted if a warning is given for foul play. If the same fighter commits another foul play, another point is deducted and a final warning is given. If a third warning is given to the same fighter, he becomes disqualified and loses the fight. If the referee feels that it was not a flagrant foul, he may allow the fight to continue

  • 1:Attack by the head butt
  • 2:Attack of the lower abdomen ( groin ) is foul play( low blow).
  • 3:Biting the opponent.
  • 4:Attack an opponent with falling condition or the condition which the opponent tries to rise.
  • 5:Attack an opponent though the break of the referee.
  • 6:The act of grasping a rope by the attack and the defense
  • 7:To insult or use offensive speech and actions when facing an opponent or a referee.
  • 8:Attack the back of the head
  • 9:The act of intentionally grounding a glove or knee to the mat to defend an attack
  • 10:The act of trying to make an intentionally making the opponent fall to the ring outside
  • 11:When going out of it out of the ring intentionally.
  • 12:It makes everything of the act of not being admitted by the other rule foul play.
    • a) When judging that the judge group is wicked, points deducted are immediately given.
    • b) The act of ducking the head low and diving into the opponent in such a manner that may appear close to head butting.

When either of fighters cuts by the head butting and bleeds, the fighter to have made cut even if it was accidental points deducted 1. When judging that the referee is intentional, it is points deducted 2.

    • c) The holding which is not an attack and skill to escape attacks is repeated and when judging that it is passive, the referee makes careful, warning, points deducted.

Incidentally, the skill to escape is the act of interrupting an offense and defense intentionally, grappling immediately after attack.

In the following of being disqualified case, fighter becomes disqualified.

  • 1:When there is intentional foul play and it is declared by the referee, being disqualified
  • 2:In fight, it doesn't follow the instruction of the umpire.
  • 3:It is outside the round time (fight participation time) and it the opponent cannot continue.
  • 4:When the fight attitude is rough and is wicked
  • 5:When the referee judges that there is not fighting spirit of fighter
  • 6:When pronounced and Lost point becomes 3 in 1 round in the warning
  • 7:When fight participation is diagnosed as being impossible as a result of the diagnosis of the doctor
  • 8:Besides, it is when violating fight regulation.
