Shuttle-A2 (a.k.a Shuttle-A Mk2 ) was a succesfull attempt by Alexander "Mindblast" Blass and Jógvan "C3PO" Trondesen to create an improved version of the standard-issue Shuttle-A for the Orbiter space flight simulator. The source of the project in version 1.0 was published.
The Shuttle was designed primarily for low gravity/low atmoshperic density environments. Lacking good aerodynamic qualities it is demanding for the novice Orbiteer who would probably prefer a Delta-glider on their first flight.

Shuttle-A2 is not capable of horizontal take-off and landing.
The Shuttle-A2 has been a major improvement over the standard-issue Shuttle-A. Version 1.0 featured:
- improved visuals:
- new particle effects for engines,
- navigation-, beacon- and strobelights
- systems and panels:
- completely reworked fuel management (including display) supporting crossfeeding, refueling from docking port and fuelhatch (when on landed) as well as oveboard fuel venting
- hull temperature during atmospheric flight
- overspeed display for measuring structural stress during atomspheric flight
- improved fuel management panel with valves to click
- functional radar display
- physics:
- 3-stage damage model when overspeed is exceeded or groundcrash is detected
- configurability:
- configurable cargo slots
- configurable payload masses for cargo containers (new scenario file parameter)
- configurable meshnames with support for different skins in one scenario
- new parameter for sound registration
