Soil Food Web

The Soil food web describes a complex living system in the soil and how it interacts with the environment, plants, and animals.

The Trophic Levels

There are five trophic levels in the soil food web: the photosynthesizers, the decomposers, the herbivores, the carnivores, and the more highly-derived predators.

An example of the food web is phytoplankton ==> prawn ==> fish ==> whale

Human Beings and Other Higher Level Predators

The animals on the higher trophic level are very susceptible to any disturbances in the lower trophic level, heightening the sense of interdependence in the soil ecology.
