Strophariaceae


Strophariaceae is a fungus family in the order Agaricales.The species of Strophariaceae have brown gills and brownish to dark brown spores. There are around 160 species, concentrated in Europe.

Genera

  • The Hypholoma genus (anciently Naematoloma), partial to colder climates, is mainly saprobe on wood and grows in clusters. Spore print varies from dark brown to purple brown. These species all share a subcutaneous layer of inflated cells.
  • The Pholiota genus is caracterized bu their annulus. Spore print is dull brown to cinammon brown. One famous edible species is the Japanese Nameko mushroom (Pholiota nameko)
