Tazobactam

Tazobactam is a compound which inhibits the action of bacterial beta-lactamases.

It is added to the antibiotic piperacillin to produce tazocin.

Tazocin is an IV ureidopenicillin used to treat seriously ill ICU patients, for the treatment of: - pneumonia (gram negatives and anaerobes) - peritonitis - diabetic foot infections

It has activity agaist Pseudomonas aeruginosa, making it an anti-Pseudomonal antibiotic.
