The Spine is the tenth full-length They Might Be Giants studio album. The album was released on July 5, 2004 in the UK, and July 13 in the US (see 2004 in music) on Idlewild/Rounder Records . It was released in conjunction with The Spine Surfs Alone EP and includes two tracks from the previously released EP, Indestructible Object. Some tracks were available pre-release on Dial-A-Song.
The album has gained recognition because it was the first album to be sold as DRM-unencumbered MP3s on They Might Be Giants' web site, for one dollar apiece or ten for the entire album. The music video/cartoon for "Experimental Film" was the first to be done in conjunction with the creators of Homestar Runner, and stars Homestar Runner characters.
