Transvasement

A transvasement is an artificial passing of water from one river basin to another one, to solve problems of hydrographic imbalance. It can decrease floods and droughts. The oldest project is the Lingqu Canal, which connects the Pearl River and Yangtze River at Xiangjiang and Lijiang. A new project, named Nanshui Beidiao (literally southern water diverted to the north), has launched very recently in the People's Republic of China to divert water from Pearl River and Yangtze River in southern and central China to Yellow River and Haihe River in northern China.
