Trough

  1. In European and North American countries a trough is a long shallow container used for the water or feeding of domestic livestock.
  2. In Australia and New Zealand, a trough is any sort of container resting on the ground that holds water for feeding livestock, usually round; a rectangular container used for washing clothes; a channel for conveying water or other farm liquids (milk) from place to place by gravity; any general 'U' or 'V' shaped channel conveying water for irrigation purposes.
  3. In meteorology, a low-pressure area of considerable length.
