Guettarda's message
Better luck next time. It did degenerate into quite a food-fight there, didn't it? It's sad that there is this repeated conflict between pro-left and pro-Israel. The whole "enemy of my enemy" thing gets really messed up when there is common cause between progressives and nazis. A very sad state of affairs. I suppose I have it easier - I may disagree with many of the actions of the state of Israel with respect to Palestinian issues, but as the grandson of a Nazi I don't feel I have the right to publicly criticise them. It isn't quite "holocaust guilt" - it's more a matter of, if I accept the legacy of my grandfather, then I accept some measure of responsibility for his actions. Anyway, it seems pointless to get into fights with people like Slim when there are so many more deserving people to get into fights with.
Anyway, keep up the good work! One thing though - you might want to moderate what you say about "private email conversations"...it sounds like you plan to be offesive, and more importantly, it just sounds too much like the tiff between Sam Spade and Felonious Monk. (BTW, feel free to ignore everything I say, I don't really have a clue about anything). Guettarda 14:41, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- Hi. Didn't get your message. Could you try sending it directly to guettarda AT gmail.com? (I don't trust the wikipedia email function, not sure if it works. Guettarda 13:14, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Damn. And I didn't keep a copy. I'll have to write it again. :( :) — Helpful Dave 14:23, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

What up with all the changes? Trying to reinvent the wheel? No hard feelings, eh? TDC 18:56, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

Anti-Semitism test
Now that you have a new moniker, could I clear something up, about which I've been having an argument? What exactly is your attitude to the claim that there's a group of Jewish editors on Wikipedia who are attempting to enforce a PoV favourable to Judaism, and especially to Zionism and the State of Israel? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:09, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I wrote you a long, well-thought-out, balanced, sincere and factual response, and then I went to your and Slim's talk pages to see the argument. Having seen it, the reasoning behind your question is clear. It is an exam question. If I answer "yes", I am supposed to be an anti-Semite; if I answer "no", I am supposed to be in the clear. Please do not insult my intelligence. If you want to ask me any questions in good faith, please click here. Helpful Dave 09:54, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Email
Hey Dave, just wondering why you reply to everyone via email. -Kbdank71 16:36, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I reply to some stuff, especially everyday Wikipedia stuff, on the relevant page, but off-topic conversations — on subjects such as what my personal politics are — don't belong here, especially as some editors feel the need to (mis)quote others' personal opinions out of context for their own anti-wiki, bad-faith purposes. I hope that helps. :) — Helpful Dave 18:03, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Sure did, thanks for the explanation! -Kbdank71 18:13, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Bissap
Hi Dave - I thought your additions about Bissap at Hibiscus made the plant worthy of a page to itself, so I've moved them to Bissap (and expanded with some other info I found) - MPF 11:04, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Ah OK. Pity I finished my last bottle of bissap syrup, so I can't take a photo of it. :) — Helpful Dave 11:27, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Pipil — Spanish translation.
Since you are a primary editor on Spanish verbs - how about a little help with a translation issue. The original editor on Pipil got his information from a web-site in El Salvador. His translation was limited and questionable. I downloaded the text and another Wiki gave us a translation. I got another one in the real world. Would you look over the talk page and give us your opinion? The major issue now is the meaning of a noun Tala -- a mispelling/another name for Tula or a Toltec subgroup or lineage? And the issue of whether Teotihucan was Toltec. But that's hardly a translation question. Thanks. WBardwin 02:14, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- As far as I can see, you seem to have sorted out the confusion over there, and you don't need me to translate anything. As for Tala/Tula/Toltec, etc., I must admin I know nothing about all that. :) — Helpful Dave 12:48, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Gelato
Aloha. I can't see any reason to merge gelato into ice cream. --Viriditas | Talk 21:19, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- It's because it's just ice cream. Gelato is just used dialectally to refer to some types of ice cream. All the info at Gelato would fit in comfortably at Ice cream. :) — Helpful Dave 21:23, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- While we both agree that gelato is a variety of frozen dessert, by definition it is quite different than ice cream (both in in the amount of milk fat—2–8 percent instead of 10 to 30 found in ice cream, and in the production—Unlike ice cream, Gelato machinery whips almost no air into the gelato). Many of these varieties have their own page (presumably to cut down on article bloat), such as ice milk, frozen custard, sherbet, Pop kulfi, sorbet, and others. I think your argument is similar to merging Ford Mustang with Ford; there's no reason to do it, and smaller articles are easier to read. It would be nice to review some policy pages on this topic. --Viriditas | Talk 01:13, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
You're right
Mperel redirects to MPerel. The user signed as Mperel, which I then copy and pasted the contibution address before (as I couldn't figure out a non-manual way to see someone's contibs), and got 3 edits. His MPerel account has way more. I look like a fool now :P-- Revolutionary Left | Che y Marijuana 21:32, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)

Vote
You wrote:
- I'd like to urge you to reconsider your vote on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Anti-globalization and Anti-Semitism, as it is based on a misconception. Censorship is not the issue. The article is a POV fork, and needs to be re-merged into the Anti-globalization article. :) — Helpful Dave 18:57, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
My vote stands. I found the arguments for deletion unconvincing. My review of the article found it to be quite fair. I'm not sure what you hoped to accomplish by this message, or how many others you have contacted. I don't think this sort of politicking is appropriate. You are entitled to your opinion, and if the majority agree the article will be deleted. Please do not attempt to foist your views on me.--Briangotts 15:38, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- You have a funny idea of "foisting" and "politicking". I politely and appropriately asked you to reconsider your vote because your comment led me to believe that you were not supporting the existence of the article out of anti-Left ideological commitment (in which case I wouldn't have bothered) but rather out of the misconception that the content of the article was to be deleted and thus censored. What I hoped to accomplish by the message was (surprise, surprise) that you would reconsider your vote. The fact that that seems incomprehensible to you suggests that you don't understand that one's stance can change when flaws in it are pointed out, which is sad. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you will be a valuable contributor. If you require any further information, just e-mail me. :) — Helpful Dave 15:59, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Copyrights, branded products
I've been trying hard to find out whether photographs taken of branded products are property of the photographer, or if the copyrighted brand's company has some rights. I'd like to take pictures of different kinds of tea like yours on the Twinings page, but I don't know the law here. I'd do just what you did, basically. Even if you don't know, if you know whom to ask I would be delighted. It seems fine to me, but I'd like something a little more authoratative than that. --Zantastik 08:50, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I'm sure it's fine. We're not putting their trademark on something of ours; it's still on their product. If the company ever intervened, it would be to give us money for the advertising, not to sue us! If you're still not sure, discuss it on . :) — Helpful Dave 10:45, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you!
Thank you for supporting my nomination on RfA, it failed because of Wikipedia's minority rule system, although I thought 21/8 support was sufficient. It was also cut short by 12 hours. But your vote of confidence is greatly appreciated, now let's build an encyclopedia! --Bjarki 13:56, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- 72% support would be enough if you were a right-wing American. Oh well. Just try again in a couple of months. — Helpful Dave 14:16, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Neruda
Howzitgoing? Just now someone added a substantial amount of material to Pablo Neruda wholly to emphasize his Stalinist sympathies, including a long quote from his ode to Stalin, which is not considered one of his best works. I was wondering whether you'd care to take a look. I have rather a lot on my plate at the moment and I am not sure when I'll be able to devote to it the attention it deserves. Saludos -- Viajero 21:29, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
You have redirected a number of articles to Towns in Victoria, Australia. My understanding is that the articles in question had enough information in them to justify their existence and in some cases even more. For example the immediate past revision of Tallangatta an article trashed by the redirect.
Could you please explain why you made these changes and under what policy. I would rather be contributing content to the Wikipedia than reverting such changes.
If you wish to discuss the policy about Australian Geography articles, perhaps you could contribute to the discussion on the Australian Wikipedians noticeboard.
As per your contact policy, I have emailed you. Regards --AYArktos 22:37, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- No need to e-mail me. But since I saw your e-mail first, I replied to it. Talk to my girlfriend about it. — Helpful Dave 22:53, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Agreed, please refrain from redirecting or tagging my Traralgon (or any other Victorian town) articles for merging. Your towns in Victoria should be in list format. Its unworkable as it is. Thanks. Andypasto 08:21, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Please don't do that again. If you want to redirect these articles, either discuss it or put them on WP:VFD. If you blank them en masse again, you'll be blocked for vandalism. Ambi 11:32, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Vfd is not to be clogged up with discussion about redirects. No blanking was done. I won't be blocked for vandalism. You must not make threats. — Helpful Dave 12:29, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
