Utrecht University

Utrecht University (Universiteit Utrecht in Dutch) is a university in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It is one of the oldest and largest universities in the Netherlands. Established March 26, 1636, it had an enrollment of 24,628 students in 2003, and employed 7,863 faculty and staff. The budget of the university is 641 million euro.

Two large faculties, Humanities and Law, are located in the inner city of Utrecht, but the majority of the buildings is in De Uithof, a campus area in the outskirts of the city.

The university's motto is "Sol Iustitiae Illustra Nos", which means "Sun of Justice, shine upon us".


Notable alumni

Universiteit Utrecht counts a number of distinguished scholars among its alumni and faculty, including several Nobel Prize laureates:

J. Slauerhoff (poet, novelist) worked as an assistant at the University's clinic for Dermatology and Venereal Diseases from 1929-1930.
