Vestvågøy

Vestvågøy is a municipality in the county of Nordland, Norway.

This island and municipality is among the most scenic in Norway, with rugged cliffs and peaks facing the south eastern coast. Towards the north-west, however, the land is flat, with extensive farmlands. Most people are to be found in the municipal centre of Leknes, which has an airstrip, and in Gravdal, where the central hospital for the Lofoten islands is to be found. Along the south-eastern coast one finds picturesque fishing villages like Ballstad and Stamsund, where the hurtigruten calls.

At Borg one has reconstructed an iron age chieftain residence, with a house measuring 80 metres, built of stone and turf.
