Vladimir Burtsev (Vladimir Lvovich Burcev) (1862-1942), a revolutionary scholar, editor of the periodical "Byloe" ("The past"), concerning the history of the Russian revolutionary movement. He became famous exposing a great number of agent provocateurs (especially Yevno Azef in 1908).Because of his revolutionary activities and harsh criticizing of the imperial regime and personally emperor Nicholas II, he was imprisoned three times (once in Britain). During the World War I – patriot. In 1917 he accused V.I.Lenin and Bolsheviks as agents of Germany. At the very day of Bolshevik coup d’état (the October revolution), he was arrested. Set free after few months, he left Russia (1918) and spent rest of his life in emigration. During the Russian Civil War, he was supporting the White Movement of Admiral Kolchak and General Anton Denikin. He died in the occupied Paris in 1942.
