World Class Championship Wrestling

(Redirected from WCCW)

World Class Championship Wrestling was a popular regional professional wrestling federation run out of Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Originally owned by promoter Cal Farley , by the end it was run by Jack Adkisson under the ring name "Fritz Von Erich".

In 1986, WCCW broke away from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).

Talent exchanges, and talent deals, turned WCCW into one of the most recognized wrestling promotions in America by the mid 1980s.

However, with WWF encroaching on many traditional territories, WCCW was forced into an inter-promotional attempt at going national itself. It attempted this by joining the AWA and CWA in forming a new Pro Wrestling USA after the previous promotion by that name had broken up. The hope was that inter-federational matches and revenue from the pay per view "SuperClash III" would be enough to keep WCCW afloat.

However, Superclash III was not a hit, and Adkisson was forced to sell WCCW to CWA owner Jerry Jarrett. The combined federation became known as the USWA.
