WRR (101.1 FM) is a municipally-owned radio station in Dallas, Texas that broadcasts a classical music format. The present WRR was originally licensed in 1948, as WRR-FM; the original AM WRR began operation on 1310 kHz on August 5, 1921 and is now privately owned as KTCK . Despite its public ownership, WRR is a commercial station and sells spot advertising ; over the years, private broadcasters in the DFW market have made numerous calls for the station to be privatized, without success.
The station is known partly for being the starting point of John Peel's radio career. A man who later became a legendary British disc jockey, Peel notably covered the arraignment hearing of Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before Oswald was shot and killed.
WRR also first brought the voice of singer Kay Starr to the airwaves.
