W Hotel

The W Hotel chain is owned by Starwood Hotels.

The hotels are located in Australia, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and the United States.

An example of the chain would be their location in the Chicago Loop district: the entire lobby is a cocktail lounge, filled day and night with loud, rather mechanical-sounding music that remains audible in the elevator as high as the third floor. The art on the walls, both in public areas and in guest rooms, tends towards Dadaist "Readymades," e.g., a cigarette case, liquor flask, or toy automobile might be mounted in an expensive shadow-box frame, and hung on a wall. Rooms tend to be rather small for the rates charged, and tend to make very inefficient use of the space. Color schemes tend to make heavy use of black, dark gray, and dark colors. The hotel's restaurant tends to specialize in nouvelle cuisine.
