Wavy cap or Caramel-capped psilocybe (Psilocybe cyanescens or Psilocybe azurescens) is a psychedelic mushroom whose main active compound is psilocybin. It belongs to the Strophariaceae family in the order Agaricaceae.

Appearance

P. cyanescens has a hygrophanous cap that is fox-brown when moist, becoming pale ochreous when drying. It bruises with a bluish or blue-green color, often still visible on dried stems.

The mushroom grows to a height of 2-5 cm.

Habitat

P. cyanescens grows on or in the presence of woodchips and mulched plant beds (particularly under rhododendrons). In the US, P. cyanescens to the Pacific Northwest, south to North California, and in certain parts of Europe.

Cultivation

Psilocybe cyanescens indoor cultivation is familiar to North American tribes, especially for religious ceremonies. Nowadays cultivation of this species has become illegal in a number of states, including the United States.
