William Irvine (lawyer)


William Irvine (February 14, 1820November 12, 1882) was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician from Corning, New York. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1858 as a Republican in New York's 28th district. He served only one term (1859-1861). At the start of the Civil War he entered the army as Lt. Colonel of the 10th New York Regiment, and was afterward brevetted to Brigadier General. After the war he moved to California and resumed the practice of law.
