Yoplait

Yoplait is a pre-stirred yogurt in a variety of fruit-based flavours that comes in a nearly cylindrical container sealed with a foil top. The fact that the container is not perfectly cylindrical and is more like an inverted cup results in a design which is both unique and dangerous to wildlife (as described below). The yogurt is described on its company's homepage as being: "delicious blended creaminess." Another tagline, used in an early 1990s TV ad campaign asked consumers, "Why dip a spoon into anything less?"

Yoplait's Community Involvement

Yoplait participates in an annual program called "Saving Lids to Save Lives" to raise money for breast cancer research. Yoplait donates ten cents per foil lid that is mailed to the company. This money is donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation , until the maximum donation of 1.2 million dollars is reached.

In addition to this, Yoplait has been the primary sponsor of Race for the Cure , a marathon held to raise additional research money, since 2001.

Effects of Yoplait on the Environment

Despite selling generally healthy products, Yoplait has come under scrutiny by the media due to their products' packaging. The reason for this lies in the shape of the Yoplait container, an inverted cup, with a wide base that gets narrower. As the containers are littered in nature, animals infiltrate the packaging with their head and often are unable to remove them. A solution is to crush the canister before disposing of it, however, occasionally the animal will still infiltrate it. For this reason, critics of the container's design have requested that it be reshaped so that it is either perfectly cylindrical, or shaped like a regular cup.
